1976 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares 750ml

I have had a lot of bottle variation with this wine, from excellent to poor. This bottle was in between those extremes with a highly complex and distinctly ripe nose redolent of intense sous bois that gives way to rich, full, powerful and sweet full-bodied flavors that still have plenty of muscle if not much finesse or elegance, all wrapped in a still moderately dry tannic finish that displays a touch of warmth as well. 88/now (The best bottle I have had in the last few years displayed a very ripe though pretty and complex nose of earthy, mostly secondary aromas that introduce powerful, robust, structured, slightly warm flavors of solid if not incredible length. There is good depth and this is a muscular Bonnes Mares if not especially refined and the prominent tannins are likely to always be prominent. The complexity and length are worth the price of entry though this is clearly better with food.
