The 1959 Léoville-Barton has a straightforward bouquet with cedar and antique bureau aromas infusing the decayed red fruit, turning more floral (rose petal) for a time before developing peaty scents. The palate is medium-bodied with rather coarse tannin and yet there is a fine line of acidity. This Barton has a gentle personality, a Saint Julien not wishing to create any fuss but still determined to give as much pleasure as possible. It has faded for sure, yet there is still something compelling about this wine. (Drink between 2019-2030)
